Review:
THE SAVANTS - "Razzmatazz"
„The
first highlight of 2008, even if it was released last year and one or
two of
the songs were on the first demo. For me, THE SAVANTS from Tübingen are
the new
Ska-Punk hope from Germany. Although I still
couldn't be won over by
their live performance, "Razzmatazz" shines alongside the
masterpieces of BAD RELIGION, DISABILITY, NOFX, OPERATION IVY and
SCRAPY
without being a rip-off. THE SAVANTS from Tübingen will astonish you
with
fantastic songwriting, cool arrangements and insane ideas.
Whether it's through a
honky-tonk piano or a kazoo, because you really don't
need a brass section anyway, THE SAVANTS have the ability to produce
great
songs using simple means. Another bonus point for them is their
fantastic
background choir. Alongside Speed-Metal guitars of the Hardcore genre,
THE
SAVANTS strangely lean towards Russian Folklore--whether they are aware
of it
or not--without actually being Folkpunk. Hurray! There are still people
out
there who can write and play good melodic Hardcore songs and combine
them with
off-beat ultra-Punk anthems. (9/10)
